Who is this breed suited to?
A Lowchen suits a companion home willing to give attention and coat care, whether or not it chooses the traditional lion clip.
Daily time commitment
RKC lists up to an hour of adult exercise. Small size still leaves room for daily walks, games and learning comfortable short separations.
Coat and everyday care
Comb the coat several times weekly; discuss clipping frequency and protection of closely clipped areas with a groomer familiar with the breed.
Challenges to plan for
The lion outline is a grooming style rather than evidence of temperament. Look beyond presentation to handling tolerance and ordinary household behaviour.
How does it compare?
The Havanese is another Bichon-family companion with a different coat presentation; both require more grooming commitment than their size suggests.
Questions to ask a breeder
Can I see an adult Lowchen in everyday coat condition? What health tests, grooming training and social experiences have been provided for the litter?
