Who is this breed suited to?

A Burmese may suit a person who wants a cat closely involved in daily life and comfortable seeking affection. Many remain playful as adults.

Daily time commitment

Include games, reward-based learning and time near people in the daily schedule. Fetch may appeal to some individuals, while others prefer chasing or exploring.

Coat and everyday care

A weekly gentle rubber brushing generally maintains the fine, close coat and removes loose hair. Use care sessions to learn the cat's normal skin and body condition, and keep treats within its feeding plan.

Challenges to plan for

A cat that follows people from room to room may not suit someone who needs constant personal space. Strong attachment and intelligence can also make inconsistent household rules frustrating. Decide which surfaces and sleeping areas are available before the kitten arrives.

How does it compare?

The Bombay draws partly on Burmese ancestry and can appeal for similar affectionate interaction. Its black coat and distinct breed development separate it from the Burmese.

Questions to ask a breeder

Which medical concerns have appeared in older relatives, including diabetes, and what screening informs breeding decisions? Ask for records and a realistic discussion of uncertainties. Discuss socialization, experience with other animals and how the breeder matches a kitten to your available companionship.
