Learn cord maintenance from someone familiar with the breed. Its coat is commonly clipped once or twice yearly rather than styled like a Poodle.

Working versatility can mean readiness for action in ordinary surroundings. Practise switching off as well as retrieving and movement-based games.

The Portuguese Water Dog has maritime working history and different coat presentation; one breed's brushing or clipping routine need not fit the other.
