A German hunting terrier bred to go to ground after fox and badger, valued for its tenacity.

Who is this breed suited to?

A Jagdterrier is best considered by a knowledgeable working-terrier owner with serious outlets for a compact dog's strong hunting interests.

Daily time commitment

Make time each day for purposeful activity, searching and impulse control. Small body size is no basis for prescribing a short exercise routine.

Coat and everyday care

Both hard rough and coarse smooth coats occur; brush accordingly and inspect feet and skin after cover or digging.

Challenges to plan for

Selection specifically for hunting makes small-animal safety and secure boundaries central. A busy terrier is not automatically a suitable casual family purchase.

How does it compare?

The Fox Terrier shares part of its development history, but the Jagdterrier was deliberately selected around hunting performance.

Questions to ask a breeder

What working tasks are expected of buyers? Can you show health results, parent behaviour and how puppies learn safe handling and disengagement from excitement?
