A hairless (or "powderpuff"-coated) toy breed known for its striking, almost alien appearance and affectionate nature.

Who is this breed suited to?

The Chinese Crested can suit a small home that enjoys a close companion and accepts either skin care or substantial fine-coat maintenance.

Daily time commitment

RKC lists up to 30 minutes of daily adult exercise. Add play, learning and company, adapting outdoor time to the individual coat variety.

Coat and everyday care

Hairless dogs have exposed skin plus head, foot and tail hair; Powderpuffs have a full fine coat. Ask for care specific to that variety.

Challenges to plan for

Hairless does not mean care-free or guaranteed allergy compatibility. Skin comfort and the Powderpuff's tangles need different practical routines.

How does it compare?

The American Hairless Terrier is another hairless-breed comparison, but it has a distinct terrier background. A Crested Powderpuff is still the same Crested breed.

Questions to ask a breeder
