Follow these rules when buying a exotic animal to avoid the most common problems.

✓Never send money by wire transfer, gift card, or crypto before you've seen the animal in person or on a live video call.
✓Ask to see the animal (and its parents, if applicable) in person, or request a live video call — don't rely on photos alone.
✓Request health records, vaccination history, and any registration papers before you pay.
✓Be wary of prices that seem far below market rate — it's one of the most common scam signals.
✓Avoid sellers who pressure you to decide or pay immediately, or who refuse a video call or in-person visit.
✓If shipping is offered, be extra cautious — fake "pet shipping fee" scams are common. Meeting in person is always safer.
✓Meet in a safe location, or visit the seller's home or facility directly.
✓Get the price, health guarantee, and return policy in writing before finalizing payment.
✓Trust your instincts — if something feels off, walk away.
