A small Spanish ratting breed from the Valencia region, prized for its speed and hunting drive.

Who is this breed suited to?

The Valencian Ratter suits an owner who enjoys a small, alert working dog and will guide both hunting interests and visitor responses.

Daily time commitment

Offer sniffing walks, searching games and calm greeting practice. RSCE describes a lively ratter without prescribing an exercise-minute quota.

Coat and everyday care

The fine, short coat is straightforward to inspect after outings; introduce gentle foot, mouth and body handling while the puppy is small.

Challenges to plan for

Its traditional quarry included water rats, rabbits and moles. Small size does not make close contact with small pets automatically safe.

How does it compare?

The Ratonero Bodeguero Andaluz is another Spanish ratter, but the Valencian has its own regional standard and upright ears.

Questions to ask a breeder

Can I see adult reactions to strangers, discuss barking and prey interest, and review pedigree, health records and puppy experiences?
