Who is this breed suited to?
A Komondor needs a knowledgeable guardian-dog owner who can manage visitors and commit to a specialised corded-coat routine.
Daily time commitment
RKC lists up to an hour of adult exercise; boundary supervision, calm handling and visitor practice add significantly to daily care.
Coat and everyday care
Learn cord separation from an experienced owner and allow ample drying time after bathing; the mature coat is not maintained by ordinary brushing.
Challenges to plan for
Large size, territorial tendencies and a coat that hides the skin create practical challenges. Cooperative examination and secure entrances should be priorities.
How does it compare?
The Puli is another corded Hungarian breed but much smaller and historically a herder; corded appearance does not mean the same working role.
Questions to ask a breeder
Can you show cord care from puppyhood through maturity? How do your Komondors accept veterinary handling and visitors, and what health checks support this litter?
