It is interesting: dogs legends and famous dogs

History knows many examples when the dog becomes well-known by people, and later they write books, make films, erect monuments and compose songs about such dogs. Each of the cases is wonderful itself, but there are some that deserve special focus and interest. Thus, the worldwide fame as the most faithful dog, is firmly intrenched for Skye terrier called Bobby in Edinburgh. From his 16 years of life, he has lived on his owner's grave for 14 years. The dog felt the owner's death so much, that he left it only to find food and shelter from the cold and bad weather. The attempts of strangers to take Bobby to their home ended the same way - the dog invariably returned to the tomb of his owner. Even the city council, seeing such touching behavior of four-legged friend, took Bobby officially under its wing, and this protected the dog from destruction as abeyant animal. After Bobby's death, in 1872, a monument was erected for him, which to this day is the personification of boundless loyalty. Barry St. Bernard dog became a legend as an unsurpassed lifeguard of travelers which lost their way and people who fell under snow drifts in the Alps. During his life, which he spent at the monastery of St. Bernard (Switzerland), Barry saved more than forty lives. Ironically, the man whom he has saved and tried to withdraw from the snow impasse killed the dog. Ha had unusual color for St. Bernards, it was dark brown and Barry was mistakenly taken for the bear and shot dead in winter in 1814. Also, there was Sultan, the dog who served in law enforcement in Leningrad from the late 30s to late 40s. During his services he helped a lot in discovering more than thousand crimes, there is about a hundred detained criminals and all this happened thanks to him. Thanks to Sultan stolen property worth about three million rubles of the USSR at the time was found and returned. By the end of the service, when the dog wasn't able to work, Sultan was transferred to the kennel, where he lived the rest of his days. Nowadays, stuffed animal of Sultan is in the museum of the Ministry of Interior of St. Petersburg. Another "four-legged" legend of Russian investigation is a Doberman called Tref. More than thousand crimes were discovered with his help in the beginning of 20th century. Speaking of famous dogs we can't ignore the unrivaled champion in long jumps - Greyhound named Benny. The record was set in the UK in 1849. The length of the dog's jump was 9.14 meters while chasing a hare. This result has not been surpassed up to now. Also greyhounds are known in the world record in high jumps. The representative of the breed called Cindy, in 2003 took barrier with the height of 167.7 cm without touching, and already in 2006 she surpassed herself and set a new record - 173 cm and it's still unbeaten. Worldwide fame got a black labrador called Oscar, who had such strong hypnotic powers that managed to hypnotyze large groups of people simultaneously. In the 80s, Oscar and his owner, Hugh Lennon, organized large shows where the dog showed its phenomenal abilities. But the undisputed world leaders among dogs legends, of course, are Belka and Strelka - usual mongrels which made the first orbital flight of 1960. Almost every pupil knows these names, but only a few people know the real names of the dogs before the flight into space were Albina and Marquis.
